3 Verses to Cling to When Chasing your Dreams

You are chosen.

By God. For God. To do things He prepared for you before you ever existed. Not for your success or fulfillment or fame, but that you may “proclaim the excellencies” of the One who chose you and, in Him, be ultimately and eternally satisfied. (1 Peter 2:9) (Ephesians 2:10)

This God - who prepared things for us before the foundation of the world, who creates new hearts in the goodness of Christ - is at work. And I think the coolest, sweetest thing ever is that He lets you and me be part of that work because He loves us. He is daily making clearer what the work He has laid out for me looks like and how my life is going to play a part in His story.

But sometimes, it isn’t so clear how I’m supposed to get there or what I’m supposed to do about it today. Sometimes I feel I’m at a road block, an intersection, or a dead end that I just don’t know how to navigate. So here are three verses with truth to hold onto as you seek to live out the day-by-day of the dreams God gives you for how you’ll play a part in His story:

# 1 "Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”- Psalm 37:4

Our dreams are from God.

This verse describes the process that happens when we grow in a relationship with God: as we we enjoy in and seek more of Him, our hearts begin to align with His. If your heart is filled with His Word and transformed by His Spirit in this way, He’s going to give you desires that reflect His character and will bring Him glory.

(Disclaimer: Please don’t miss what this verse says. It is not saying that God is our ticket to getting our earthly desires. Instead, He is the giver of Godly desires.)

# 2 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” - Romans 8:28

Our dreams are for God, and God is for our good.

And our good, as explained in the next verse, is to be “conformed to the image of Christ.” You can trust that God has your ultimate best interest in His plans for you. You can trust that, no matter how winding of a path the pursuit of your God-given dreams may be, He is using every step of the way to grow you, to bring you closer to Himself, and to fulfill His purpose.

# 3 “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” - Ephesians 3:20-21

God’s power, not ours, is at work in the pursuit of our God-given dreams.

He doesn’t just have the power to help us get where we think we want to be or even where we believe He’d have us be; He has the power to do far more abundantly than we could ever imagine. Wow. Praise God that it’s never left up to us to fulfill the purpose He gives us, but that it is according to the power at work within us - the Holy Spirit - that we are able to love and serve Him as we follow our dreams.
