For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) - Ephesians 5:8-9
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23
The apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians to encourage the church to continue growing in Christ. Paul tells the church that when they were apart from Christ, they were living in Spiritual darkness. But now that they are united with Christ, they are living in the light. The light of Christ is the truth of who He is and who we are because of Him. As children of God, we no longer have to live burdened by our sinful nature. We have hope that God is constantly making us more like Him through His Holy Spirit. The light that is inside of us is not from us but from Him. You don’t have to prove anything or strive to be a perfect Christian. All you have to do is show up and allow God to work through you. You already possess all the fruit of the Spirit because the Spirit is inside of you. The more time you spend with God, the more you will cultivate love, peace, and a gentle spirit. Take hold of the promise that God is with you, for you, and active in your life. That is how you can live in the light God has called you to.
What are some areas of your life that cause you to live in darkness?
What would it look like for you to act out of the fruit of the Spirit as listed in Galatians?
Father, thank You for calling me out of the grave into life. Thank You for constantly molding my heart into one that reflects Your glory. Forgive me for any way that I have tried to bring myself glory instead of giving it to You. Give me discernment over areas of my life where I might still be living in darkness. Come and show me what it looks like to step out of that darkness and into Your light. Amen.
