Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.- James 1:2-3
The past few years I have found myself running to this verse to explain why I am a joyful woman of God. I am that woman you will see at a store trying hard to make eye contact with everyone. I will have a huge grin on my face only to say, “Hi, how are you?” I feel as if people perceive my life to be one hundred percent perfect and without sin, when that is the farthest thing from the truth. If anything, I feel I constantly struggle because nothing seems to come easy for me. James 1:2-3 reminds me of why I choose joy. I choose joy because I choose God.
Without God, I would not be the woman I am today. I truly do not know how I ever made it through days without a relationship with God. When I find myself struggling with life circumstances, people or even myself, I remind myself of the freedom I have because God is with me and He goes before me. I found freedom from baggage, shame and questions that I want answered in my life. I found myself choosing joy when I decided to choose God.
There are moments in my life when things are not peaches and cream. However, Christ calms that part of me. He reminds me that when my faith is being tested, my endurance has an opportunity to grow. I want to reassure you by saying this: choosing God every day (even on the hard days) will bring you the greatest joy and freedom. I promise!
When you are struggling, do you find yourself carrying it over into the next day or do you try to give it Jesus?
Do you ever find yourself comparing your walk with God to someone else’s? If so, do you remind yourself that Christ took the cross for you too?
Dear Lord, thank You so much for pursuing us even when we go through seasons of struggling. Remind us to turn our eyes to You. Show us how to rest knowing that You have a plan for each season that we are in. Whether it be the most joyful season of our life or a season where our faith is being tested. Remind us that You have placed us in that specific season on purpose, for a purpose. We love and thank You for each season of life that we go through, amen.
