Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
- James 1:2-4
Have you ever been through something so deeply discouraging that you were left wondering how you will ever rise up again? Or perhaps you have felt like you are walking through a storm that keeps trying to dim the light in your life. My biggest trial in life to this day has been the passing of my dad. It was a tragic motorcycle accident that took his life on Father’s Day when I was nine years old. That day is forever etched into my heart. Through that tragedy and the trials that have followed, I am consistently reminded of God’s steadfast love for me through each and every storm. I found that if I put my sorrows, heartbreak, grief, and feelings of unworthiness into God’s hands, my heart is replaced with a sense of peace and comfort. I promise you, if you have a willing heart ready to seek Jesus with all that you have, with wholehearted steadfastness, you will begin to see the light again. Brighter than ever. The trials in my life have undoubtedly made me stronger in my faith and deepened my relationship with Jesus Christ. The moments when I feel the lowest, God is still there. Where God is, there is joy to be found. Where there is joy, there is a full life found in Jesus.
I truly believe that as we pray our way through trials with hope in His promises, we are given a unique opportunity to share our newfound joy in Jesus with others. I confidently trust that my heart for orphans and the fatherless stems from the hardship of losing my dad as a little girl that ultimately led me to serving missions in various orphanages letting God’s light shine through with all glory to Him. I encourage you to find the passion in your heart through your trial and act on it. It’s a beautiful thing when we rise up and show our enemy that God is the center of our heart and we will not let this trial defeat us.
1. What is a trial you are currently facing and how can you use that for a greater good?
2. What actions do you take to see the light of Jesus in the darkness?
Heavenly Father, I pray that You cover these sweet readers in Your steadfast love and light today and always. Remind them that they are Your children. That You have created them to do incredible things through You. Help them use their trials to bring joy to those around them. I pray, Lord, that whatever they are going through in this storm, they find the strength to continue to hope in You. In Your name I pray, Amen.
