Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
- Galatians 6:2
In the wake of the recent happenings of Hurricane Harvey in the Texas Gulf Coast, I could not stress the importance of community through situations such as these. I was devastated from seeing the dire circumstances my family and friends were facing in Houston. It was through community that my family and I were able to find a source of strength and peace.
We are not made to go through this life alone, no one is. God has a special design for community, for us to engage with other fellow believers so we may do just as is commanded in Galatians 6:2. The beauty of engaging in a faith community, such as Lane of Roses, has taught me that I am not meant to carry my burdens alone. God’s call for community is so much more than engaging with others in their walk with Christ; it also involves us letting go of our pride and the “lone wolf” mantra that we are sufficient enough.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10:24-25
1. What is the importance of being part of a faith community?
2. What keeps us from engaging in an authentic community?
Lord, thank You for showing me the importance of community and for creating us to be Your hands and feet in this hurting world. I pray that You may strengthen my ties to a faith community and that I may live out Your design for community. Amen.
