Walk in Step
Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.
- Galatians 5:25-26 MSG
1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” When we accept Jesus christ as Lord and Savior of our life, we then have the Holy Spirit inside of us. The Spirit has never left, and never will. When we choose to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, our daily actions will reflect that. We must purposely, with true faith, choose to rely solely on the Spirit to guide us throughout our lives. When we choose to follow Christ and to rely on the Spirit He, the Holy Spirit, begins to produce “good fruits” in us. The more time we spend walking with Christ and the Spirit, the more fruits will be produced.
Sometimes, in our times of uncertainty we may not know if we are walking in the Spirit. So how can we know? Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.” Those two verses tell us that we can be confident in knowing that we are walking in the Spirit if our lives are showing forth the fruit of the Spirit (See Matthew 7:17-20).
1. Am I walking with the Holy Spirit?
2. How can I choose to walk with the Spirit daily?
3. How can I spend more time with the Spirit this week?
Hey God, thank You so much for this day. Thank You for Your precious Son and thank You for His breath flowing through my lungs. God, I humbly ask that You help me to submit to the Spirit. I ask that You help to grow and strengthen my faith so I may have more confidence in choosing the spirit daily. I love You, I praise You, and I thank You for Your undying love. Amen.
