Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law.
- Proverbs 29:18
Anyone else here a list maker? I am low key obsessed with lists of all kinds - to do’s, blog post ideas, favorite baby names, aspects of my dream home, etc. The options are endless.
One of my favorite lists to make involves my goals in life. There was a time, before I came to know Christ, when my goals centered around myself, and to be completely honest, the goals never truly filled my life with purpose and they seemed to be unreachable.
When I started to pursue my faith and deepen my relationship with Christ, I noticed a shift happening in what I was now looking to achieve in life. From that, I noticed a sense of purpose forming and ultimately, my follow-through was much more dedicated. Why? Because my internal heart’s desires were now for a much deeper purpose to fulfill God’s purpose for my life, not my own, living out Christ from the inside out.
God is all for us making goals. They teach us commitment, self-discipline, and the realization that sometimes it’s best not to only focus on that end goal but instead embrace your journey to that point and make the most of the abundant life He delights in. When the road to achieving a goal God has set for you seems long and it seems impossible, hold fast because He is always with you. Pray to see the light of His will to guide you out of the darkness. When criticisms from others begin to pour in, remember who really fills your life with blessings - the words and actions of man or the Son of God who died to save you and see your purpose be fulfilled? With Him all things are possible.
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.
- Hebrews 10:35-36
I reflected on the struggles I’ve had in my past. I realized that those struggles could actually be used to encourage someone else to overcome those trials. Then, my goals can be formed to be His hands and feet. He uses broken people to spread hope in this broken world.
My goals now focus on fulfilling what God has called me to do. I promise you, it’s a beautiful thing when God’s goals for you are realized and put into action. It’s almost as if a weight is lifted and the door has opened to a new set of opportunities.
1. How have your goals shifted as you started to pursue a deeper faith and relationship with Jesus Christ?
2. Write down a list of things you would like to accomplish to spread God’s light in this world.
Heavenly Father, I pray to see the vision You have set for my life. Help me form goals around Your will. Your ways are always good. My heart’s deepest desire is to further Your Kingdom, helping those who feel hopeless to see hope in the hills and valleys. I pray to always remember the real, raw, genuine reason behind the goals You have set for me. It’s in Your name I pray, Amen.
