For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. - Psalm 2:13
As a society, we are so focussed on ourselves. We so often try to be the best for our own recognition that we lose sight of where God is. When we do good works, we can get caught in doing them to boost our own egos.
Matthew 5:6 says, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” The purpose of our good deeds isn’t to make ourselves feel better; it is to show God’s love to the world. It’s important to remember that our purpose is so much bigger than ourselves.
I am always left in awe when I am reminded that God works through me. Why would He choose me? I’m not good enough for God to use me. Those questions and doubts often run through my mind. But here’s the thing: God can use anyone.
No matter what place you are in life, no matter your insecurities, you are worthy of God working through you because of who He is, what He’s done, and the fact that He has chosen to use you.
Throughout my life, I have struggled with low self-esteem. I often question my place in God’s kingdom and how I can really serve Him with all my shortcomings. When I am feeling this way, I often turn to Romans 8:28, which says “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” This reminds me of my calling to serve and to trust that He is using my works to show others His love.
I think that it’s important to remember that God can give us strength even though we are not perfect. We are not doing this on our own. Through God we are made strong and are able to do good things.
I would encourage you this week to notice areas in your life where God is using you and what areas you need to give to Him. We need to humble ourselves and allow God to enter our hearts. When we do this, He can do amazing things!
1. How can I humble myself and allow God to shine through my works?
2. Where is God working through me right now?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank You that You have chosen me. Help me to be confident and to show Your love those around me. Help me to remain humble. Remind me that I can’t do this life without You. Comfort me when I feel alone. Thank You for using my works to serve others. Amen.
