Let's Not Limit God's Plan for Our Lives

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I am giving myself to you.

- Psalm 143:8

There is always something so inspiring about the beginning of a new year. We are given the opportunity to reflect on the joys, sorrows, trials, victories, and lessons learned from the previous year while looking ahead to the future. We create a list of resolutions and goals we want to bring into the new year that often consist of healthier habits, deeper relationships with others, and becoming more intentional with our time.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of creating a list of resolutions because I often find mine to be limited and mainstream. I don’t want to restrict my goals for 2018 to a bulleted list that I would likely lose by January 20th; I want to give this new year to my limitless and all-powerful God.

The verse Psalm 143:8 has spoken so much truth into my life and is one that I want to live by daily. This Psalm is written by David who is desperately calling out to God in a moment of great trial, and he is giving God full and total surrender of his life. David asks God to reveal His love each morning and to guide his path, and David surrenders his life to God, trusting Him.

I want to give each day of my life to God and ask for guidance and truth as I walk through each day, month, year, and this lifetime.

God is teaching me in this verse that His love, mercy, and plan for my life is new each morning and that I need to say “yes” to that plan each day. I hope that this year is full of me trusting, loving, seeking, and surrendering to God more each morning, and I pray that the same is true for you. Let's not limit His plan for our lives to a list of resolutions, but instead seek new resolutions each morning.

1. How can you apply what David says in Psalm 143 to your own life? What does that look like?

2. What are ways that you can trust in God's plan for your life more this year?

3. What did God reveal to you in 2017? What would you like to learn this year?

God, I want to thank You for a new year full of new and limitless possibilities. My prayer for this year is that I seek You more and trust in the plans You have for not only this year but for my life. I want to praise You, seek You, and serve You more each day while learning more about Your unfailing love for me. Thank You so much for walking by my side each and every day, God. I am so excited to walk into this new year with You by my side. Amen.
