Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. - 1 Peter 1:3
This “newness” in Christ 1 Peter talks about is better than anything else you could ever experience. Do you know why? Because it is a chance to begin again! A chance to say yes to God, and no to the things of this world.
It starts small. Quietly. A hush. A sweet small voice. It’s the Holy Spirit in you beckoning to come and dine. I can hear the hymn...
“Come and dine,” the Master calleth, “Come and Dine.”
Fellowship with the King. Like dinner and coffee with your best friend, only better. It’s eternal! Maybe this seems silly to you, if you’ve just become a new believer, and I understand why you might be shy. What will He think of me now? Or you may be wondering about the other Christians: Will they laugh at me?
So many questions! New hurdles! A complete turnaround from the girl you used to be. And that’s okay.
When I first became a Christian, I was scared too, because my former life was a trainwreck! And I didn’t know where to begin. But thankfully, God provided a wonderful church family and beautiful friendships for the journey ahead.
Dear girl, He will provide for you, too. Just ask Him!
If you’re already going to church, don’t be afraid to reach out to the girls in your youth group or ladies' Bible study! Sometimes taking that first step can be terrifying, but girl, it’s so worth it.
For example, last summer, I tried starting my own Lane of Roses Bible Study, because I was craving community. I thought it would be great to meet and encourage new people. Even though it ended up not being God’s will at all, He still provided.
And newness in Christ doesn’t just stop at provision. It continues with a willingness to serve, to be a blessing, to be that loving shoulder for someone to lean on. You, dear girl, can be that And it can start right now!
1. What is one thing you can choose to do to deepen your trust in God?
2. What is one “new thing you’d like to learn as you take more steps in your Christian walk?
Lord, don’t let me be timid or afraid as I walk this journey with You. Help me to remember that Your mercies are new every morning! Amen.
