And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
- Philippians 1:6
It was an impulse buy. The oversized, grey t shirt with blocked letters that spelled CONFIDENT is something that I would usually walk past in the store.
Why? Because, if I wore the shirt, it would be a lie.
I had never been confident in myself.
I never viewed myself as beautiful or talented. The only thing I was extraordinary at was being ordinary.
However, I realized that while I seemed ordinary, my God made me extraordinary.
The world can make us feel insecure about our bodies and ill qualified in our positions.
Our bodies are God’s tools He uses to fulfill His purpose (1 Corinthians 6:19). When we allow ourselves to look at our bodies in a judgmental way, we are misjudging and misusing a tool God uniquely designed to benefit His kingdom.
If I, as a 21-year-old woman, look in the mirror and judge myself based upon the world’s expectations, I will only look at myself as worthless.
I am not tall, skinny, or flawless.
However, if I, as a 21-year-old woman, look in the mirror and judge myself based upon how God sees me, I will overflow with purpose and confidence.
I am beautiful, special, and loved.
And so are you, Daughter of the King. Be confident and fulfill your purpose.
1. Am I confident that God created me with a specific purpose and design?
2. Am I judging myself based upon how the world sees me or how God sees me?
3. How can I change my perspective on my body image to view myself the way God does?
Dear Lord, As the world continues to lower my confidence, help me to see myself through Your eyes. Help me to trust in You and Your unique calling in my life. Amen.
