Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:1-4
My power word for this year was “brave” and God has shown me numerous times this year that with Him, I truly am brave. Hurricane Florence is just one example.
You may have heard about the recent hurricane, Florence, that hit the east coast. I met her first hand. I live right where this hurricane made landfall. It was the worst hurricane to hit our area since Hazel in the 1950s. Almost every person my husband and I spoke to endured some type of damage from the storm. Half of our mall isn’t open and our schools were so damaged they haven’t reopened. As for me and my house? We were completely spared! No one can believe it, and I say this only to bring glory to God! When you truly live for Him, He hears your prayers and answers them.
Psalm 91 came to mind when I was consoling my daughter. It had also been mentioned that same night in a Facebook group I am in. This was truly God’s confirmation. Although facing the hurricane was definitely scary and on the second night, very scary, I put my trust in God. Like it says in Psalm 91, I took His promises and made them my armor, put my faith in them, believed them for myself, and God was with me.
Knowing God means we don’t have to live in fear! Jesus told us that He has overcome the world! (John 16:33) Living in fear or not living in fear is a choice. This is a choice I have to be aware of every day. Fear is something I struggle with but God’s Word is the sword I use to slay it! I learned some years ago that fear is present to experience courage. Without fear you wouldn’t know if you are courageous! God has given me many opportunities to learn this about myself.
Honestly ask yourself if you may have a fear you don’t want to face. How can you bravely face your fear today and slay it?
Today, choose to live in God’s protection and not give in to fear. What does that look like for you?
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word that tells us over three hundred times to not be afraid! You have told us to trust You and believe You. I choose to do just that today and every day. Amen.
