This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9 NLT
After the death of Moses, it was time for the new generation of Israelites to crossover the Jordan and into the Promised Land. Without the previous generation’s disobedience, unbelief, and fear holding them back, a new beginning full of opportunity and God’s promises were about to be bestowed upon the Israelites. I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you. – Joshua 1:3 The LORD called Joshua to rise and lead the people into this great adventure. Although there were so many unknowns to conquer, we learn through them that God was always present with them and had already made a way through the Promised Land. No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. – Joshua 1:5 They simply had to seek Him with all their hearts and follow through in obedience to His commands. In doing so they acted in faith trusting their Heavenly Father would see them through each decision, trial, and battle. Without God the circumstances would be dauntingly frightful but with Him the adventure became an exciting and victorious great adventure that led to new beginnings and stronger faith. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. – Joshua 1:7 Yet how many times do we find ourselves backing away from the Promised Land God has promised us? Personally, I was afraid of stepping out into the life I knew God had called me to because of the fear of failure, rejection, and even unbelief. Was I even good enough? God’s Word told me that I was so why was it so hard to believe it at times in my life? I realized it took time to wash out the lies of the flesh. As I spent time reading God’s Word and in prayer, He began to repair me and make me new. When I became immersed in Him, my desires shifted to match the will of the Father’s and I began to see my new beginnings. When this happened, I discovered my calling. As God revealed this piece by piece, I was yearning to crossover regardless of what I faced. It was driven by a strong desire to have a continued and whole relationship with the Father and to walk with Him closely through every moment of every day. If we allow our circumstances to take over our mind and meditate on the fear of the unknowns, we succumb to our fear and become comfortable in our lives to avoid stepping out in faith with a trusting God. We need to meditate on God with thanksgiving and praise because He already has the path paved and the Promised Land waiting for us. So, be brave like Joshua step out in obedience and faith and crossover! Reflection 1. What fears are holding you back from your new beginning? 2. What instructions do you feel God is calling you to be faithful in? Prayer Heavenly Father, Thank You for knowing me from my head down to my toes and paving my great adventure for me that was tailored to me. Give me faith, obedience, and trust like the kind Joshua had to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Thank You for Your promises that You have ready to bestow on me and walking with me through this journey. Search my heart, change my ways, and remove anything keeping me from my Promised Land so that I may serve You fully and live out my calling. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
