Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. Romans 14:12 (NLT)
Accountability is one of those buzzwords that gets used a lot in the corporate industry. It’s also the cause of a lot of frustration and misunderstandings in the workforce and in the community.
Businessdictionary.com gives the following definition for accountability: The obligation of an individual or organization to account for its activities, accept responsibility for them, and to disclose the results in a transparent manner. It also includes the responsibility for money or other entrusted property.
Accountability is made up of two words: account and ability.
Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. - Romans 14:12
There will come a day when each of us will have to give account to the Lord; how did we manage the gifts he bestowed to us on earth (stewardship), what did we do with our time, did we lead people to Christ or did we ostracize them? We will also be held responsible for our words.
And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you. - Matthew 12:36-37 How often have we committed to something but just never got around to doing it? How often do we say to someone, "I will pray for you?" Are we wary of the fact that our words and actions can lead people astray? 2. Ability: But the Lord in all His mercy doesn’t just give us a list of responsibilities and then expect a report back by the end of the day. Through His Word and the whisper of the Holy Spirit in us, we can learn how to lead accountable lives. And we develop the desire to become accountable. And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. - Isaiah 11:2 And when the Spirit of the Lord rests upon you, accountability becomes something you strive for out of Love for Jesus, as opposed to duty or burden. Reflection 1. Think about the day that you will have to give account to the Lord. What are the areas in your life that you need help on? 2. List those commitments that you never got around to and prioritize them. 3. Make a prayer list and list people that you need to pray for.
Dear Lord, sometimes we are in such a hurry that we forget about promises we made. And sometimes we are so engulfed by what we “have” to achieve here on Earth that we forget that our actual accountability is towards You and Your Kingdom. Help us, Lord to be wise with our time, resources, thoughts and words.
