What's Your Word?

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable.

Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)

Each year, I set my mind on how I can be successful. I have never been a person who makes yearly resolutions. I’m not quite sure why, but it may be that I enjoy being different. However, I have always made a list of goals.

Over the past few years, I have chosen a word for the year. This word helps me reflect on the upcoming year and my goals for the year. This word would be my motivation to help me get through both the highs and lows of the year.

In 2018, I chose the word consistency. I wanted to be more consistent with everything I did in 2018. Last year was a very tough year for me. By August, I sort of gave up on following through with being consistent. I allowed the worries and the troubles of my circumstances take me away from my focus on being consistent with any and everything.

Here we are in 2019, and the word I choose to focus on this year is consistent. Yes, I am choosing the word consistent again. As I began to reflect on my life and future goals, I realize that it is only my faith in God and consistency that matters in the end. I not only need to be, but I also want to be, consistent. Consistency is the key to success in all areas. I can and will reach my goals, not with perfection, but with consistency as I trust in God’s plan.

You may be thinking, what will it look like to be consistent in all areas? I have decided that I need to be more consistent: with my prayers, with my praise/worship, in quiet time with God, with forgiveness, with my love walk, showing compassion, in my relationships, in my faith, with my writing, in my giving, with my eating habits, and consistent at work.

My sisters, one thing is certain, we all want to be successful and reach our goals this year. This year, instead of making resolutions, try something new and choose a word that represents what you feel can motivate you through the year and help you be successful in reaching your goals.

1. Write down at least two goals that you want to accomplish this year.

2. Reflect on your goals, and choose a word that you feel will motivate you throughout the year.

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to see the year 2019. I want all that You have in store for me. Please help me to set goals that are according to Your will and plan for my life. Thank You in advance for a great and successful year. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
