For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. - Ephesians 2:10
Before we are saved we are slaves to sin. I have recently understood what freedom in Christ really is. It means we are free to choose righteous living. Before salvation our nature is to sin and we do it without thinking. But as new creations in Christ we are able, through Him, to live the life we were created to live. Once we wake up to the fact that we belong to God through Jesus’ shed blood, we suddenly feel our life has a purpose and meaning. God has told us that He has a future for us and it’s good. We only have to believe and trust His plan.
I lived a lot of my life without really knowing God. I thought I knew Him until I really met Him when I had my salvation experience (or accepted Him as Lord and Savior of my life). I never thought about my purpose really until I heard Jesus say, “Follow Me.” Suddenly I wanted the life that God had planned all along. Sometimes people are depressed because they think living this life has no purpose, but when you let the Holy Spirit direct your steps, your life begins to have eternal perspective.
Lately God has been calling me to be still. In the time that I have to play a game or something, I spend it in quiet listening for His voice of direction or reading the Bible with a devotion. God is always there, ready to listen to us, but He wants to be heard also.
As a follower of Christ the main purpose of my life is to worship God. I read that all God wants is our love and prayer. He wants us to have a relationship with Him and that leads to the fulfilling of purpose in my life.
Remind yourself that you are a daughter of the King!
1. Keeping an eternal perspective in mind, what can you do today for that purpose? What lasts for eternity is loving God and loving people.
2. Take some time today to be still and listen to what God is saying to you personally.
Thank You God for saving me! Thank You for Jesus and His example of what it means to live a life of purpose. Please continue to direct my steps and lead me into the life You have prepared for me long ago. I want my life to count for something, and I know with Jesus living inside of me that we will accomplish it, that Jesus is the author and finisher of my faith, Amen.
