This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
- 1 Corinthians 1:25
Sometimes God asks us to do things that seem really crazy.
Sometimes His plans are completely opposite what we would normally expect.
I was born a dreamer, but in the middle of all my crazy big dreams, there is also the “logical” side of me. If you’re listening to me talk long enough about my dreams, you’ll see this logical side appear a time or two. This logical side has always convinced me to have a backup plan for everything, just in case my crazy dreams are actually that--crazy--and things go wrong. Yet over the years I’ve learned a time or two that plans or dreams that seem foolish to my human “logical” thinking are actually just the things that God wants to use in His wisdom to bring glory to His name and invite me on an adventure beyond my wildest dreams.
When I look at the verse above I am curious as to how things I view as foolish could possibly be wiser than I could ever imagine. Then I think of another verse:
My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. - Isaiah 55:8
When I first decided that I was going to start taking steps towards publishing my first book, I felt a little foolish.
After all, I was only sixteen years old at this time. Who would read something from a sixteen-year-old? I wasn’t even sure if I was any good at writing. What if I wasn’t?
The whole thing felt a little foolish to me. But in the middle of it all, I knew...this was what God wanted me to do.
And in the middle of it all I learned the truth of these verses. God’s plans are so beyond our small human thinking that we can’t possibly understand them all at once. And sometimes it’s okay to do what seems foolish according to our human thinking in the pursuit of what God is calling you to do.
Because whatever He is calling you to do is far beyond anything you could ever imagine.
1. What is God calling you to do that might seem foolish to your small human thinking?
2. What are some ways you can seek Godly counsel this week to discern what God is calling you towards?
Dear God, thank You that Your ways are beyond my wildest imagination. Thank You that You lead me where I couldn’t possibly imagine going and that You have great plans for me there. Help me to seek my wisdom from You and know that even if things don’t always make sense to me, You’ve got a perfect, wise plan. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
