He Always Forgives

Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and shun evil.

- Proverbs 3:7 NIV

My daughter and I went shopping and got these really cute purses. When we got home she added this little pom pom to hers. Well, I fell in love with it and wanted one too! So, we went back to the store to see if they had one for me. The only one they had was attached to a bookbag purse. You know that temptation eating away at you, right? I wanted it in that moment more than what was right. Sounds really trivial, I know. I took the pom pom off the bookbag, took it to the cashier, and said I found it and wanted to buy it. I thought it was harmless because I wasn’t stealing it, I was paying for it. But I lied…..right in front of my daughter!

The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in those who tell the truth.

- Proverbs 12:22

That night while sleeping, this Scripture was brought to my mind. The Lord then went on to remind me how I had watched Billy Graham’s funeral and wanted to leave a legacy like him of following Jesus. He also pointed out that what if we go to church in the morning and the pastor speaks about stealing or lying? How would I look to my daughter? At this point I felt like I wanted to die. I suddenly felt like Peter and Judas! I chose Peter’s solution and asked for forgiveness. In that moment nothing was more important to me than my relationship with God. I asked Him what to do! He told me to take it back and put it back on the book bag. I couldn’t wait to get rid of it! The next morning I did exactly that! When we were in church you won’t believe what happened. My pastor talked about salvation and grace. He was using examples and said,”It’s not like you wake up and think you’re going to steal!” I couldn’t believe it!

When I decided that night to take it back, God gave me a vision of gold hearts. I knew He was pleased with my choice. No matter what mistakes you make, you can always turn back to God. He always forgives. When we choose to listen to God’s wisdom instead, He turns what was meant for evil into good! And He uses it for His glory! I am so thankful for the blood of Jesus washing me clean and giving me a heart of gold!
