5 Things to Do When You're Feeling Stressed


We have all experienced it, lived it, breathed it, and been swallowed whole by it… stress! More often than not I feel like my middle name should just be “stressed.” We try to juggle so many commitments, relationships, and just life in general, and when it becomes too much to handle, our good friend stress creeps in. So how can we combat stress?

1. PRIORITIZE SELF CARE!

I can’t say it loud enough. Make time for you! Take a bubble bath, go for a run, read a great book, or even just slap on a face mask and go to bed by 8pm! You need energy to tackle all that is on your path and need to take care of yourself. So do whatever fills you up and helps you to relax.

2. Pray about it!

Our Father wants to listen to us and help carry our burdens. When you are feeling overwhelmed by this life call out to him, and breathe in his goodness. Just like Philippians 4:6 says: “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers.”

3. Spend time with friends!

My girlfriends always fill up my heart. Take a night to just have a girls night with close friends. Go get pizza, walk at the park, have an ice cream date, or just lay on the couch and laugh about life. Spending time with friends always helps refresh the soul.

4. Write down and recognize things you are thankful for!

When I hit pause on negative emotions like stress and just focus on all of the blessings in my life I always feel better! Sure, your classes or work might be stressing you out to the max, but how lucky are you to have those opportunities? Try to switch your thinking!

5. Make a practical to do list!

You probably have 13709346 different things you need to do floating around in your pretty little head. Take a breath, and write them down in order of importance. Plus, once you start marking out tasks you always feel accomplished!

So to summarize… when you’re feeling stressed prioritize self care, lean on our Father, spend time in community, have a thankful heart, and make a to do list. You’ve got this sister.
