The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will
never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
- Deuteronomy 31:8
I struggle a lot with trusting others. I often have thoughts that someday everyone I love will decide I am no longer worth their time. This has also had an impact on my relationship with God. I sometimes doubt that He cares and loves me, and I question His plans for my life. I feel like He has more important things to deal with than my relationship with Him, and I worry that He will not be faithful to His promises.
All of those feelings couldn’t be further from the truth, even though it can be difficult to really believe that we are worthy of God’s love. The Bible is full of His promises to us, and they are good and true. One promise I feel that I need to constantly be reminded of is that He will never leave me.
There are so many examples in the Bible of God telling us that He is always there to turn to when we feel alone. I love Isaiah 43:2 which says: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”. I find it comforting to know that in the difficult times, God will be right alongside me.
As Christians, God doesn’t promise us that life will be easy. But we can trust that He will be present through the triumphs and the trials. He will provide comfort to those who seek Him. I love this passage from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 which says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”. If you start to doubt that God cares or hears your prayers, turn to the Bible to remind yourself of His truths.
1. What are some truths about God you need to be reminded of?
2. Where can you see God walking alongside you right now?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the promises and truths You have given me. Help to cling onto them when I am feeling alone and insecure. Thank You for walking alongside me through the difficult times, and being there to rejoice in the successes. Help to put my trust fully and completely in You. Your love is all that I need. Amen.
