Pray, Pay, Play

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, "How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!"

- Romans 10:14-15

There are over 2 billion people in the world who still lack access to the gospel. So who is called to go reach people who haven’t heard the Good News? Does that mean every follower of Christ is called to go overseas? Does that mean we all have to go on mission trips?

Let’s take a look in Romans 10, it says "how can they believe if they have never heard about him? …. How can they hear about him unless someone tells them?." I believe we are to be that someone who tells others about the love of God. As followers of Christ, we are to do as Christ did. He was about His Father’s business. Jesus’ followers were called disciples, that is one who again follows Jesus and His Word and leads others to do the same.

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…"

Matthew 28:19

"And then He told them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone.'"

Mark 16:15 NLT

No I’m not saying that means we all have to be overseas missionaries… but if you study the Word you see that in Matthew 28, when it says go and make disciples of all nations, the word "nations" is the greek word for ethnos. That is where we get the word ethnic. It is relating to people of different cultures, customs and civilizations, race, color and ethnicity.

Guess what? We don't have to go far from home to see how diverse the world around us is. You will see a mixture of nations just in the grocery store, in a different neighborhood down the street, at school, or at your workplace. That is your mission field.

Here at Lane of Roses, we have a saying: "Pray, pay, play." To me that means, pray about going, pray for those going, for laborers, and for the people of other nations. Pay for support financially, individual missionaries, and whole mission organizations. Play in the game, go share the gospel near and far.

Pray - prayer is so powerful. It is far more than just telling God our needs. Prayer is the positioning posture for miracles to happen. When reading the Bible, you see that Jesus didn’t take prayer lightly. He set times of prayer daily. He had some very early mornings and sometimes prayed all night. He secluded himself to times of prayer which not only refueled Him but He was also gaining the heart of His Father.

If Jesus, the Son of God, didn’t skip prayer, how much more important it is for us to pray? Now, imagine if we had that same passion for prayer when it came to praying for missions. Prayer is one of the higher priorities to me in the Pray, Pay, Play because that’s where it all starts. Praying about if you should go, where you should go, about how much to donate. You can go to a country in prayer - praying for the authorities there, the hearts of the people, the missionaries in that country, their safety, the food they eat, the divine connections. Prayer changes things!

"God shapes the world by prayer. The more prayer there is in the world, the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil...." - E.M. Bounds

Pay, or in other words, giving - is about the heart. Giving is developing a generous and grateful heart. When we give we are giving God an opportunity to bless us. The Bible says you reap what you sow, so when you are giving to missions whether it be $5 or $500, that’s a seed you are sowing. You are who they prayed for. Every single amount counts and adds up. That seed will grow and reap a harvest in that ministry you gave to as well as in your life. You were just as much a part of the mission trip as they were. It’s okay if you can’t go across country but maybe God blesses you to give. You will see such blessings in your life because of your obedience to what God has given you. Give God an opportunity to bless you. In Romans 10:15 in the Message version it says, "and how will they preach unless they are commissioned and sent [for that purpose]?" Along with praying, your giving helps send those called to missions. If we want the gospel to be shared in other nations we should partner alongside to help send them spiritually and financially.

"...A man reaps what he sows"

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." ‭‭- Galatians‬ ‭6:7, 10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Play - as I said earlier, is going out to the mission field near or far to share the gospel. Imagine if each one of us captured the heart of Jesus for the lost? If we truly lived a mission mindset, living our lives to share the gospel, we would see a shift in our nations and ultimately world. Our mission should be the Great Commission. That is our purpose, that is what we are called to. No matter where you live, work or school you go to, that is your mission field and we should make it our life goal to reach the lost. The Great Commission isn’t to be taken lightly.

I would encourage everyone to go on at least one mission trip outside of where you live because it really does open up your perspective. You are able to see the world in a whole new light. I experienced Jesus on another level when I went on a mission trip outside my hometown because I saw signs, miracles, and wonders that I have never seen before. I saw how hungry for God the people of other nations were and I got to help a part of the world that doesn’t have as much access to as many resources as I do in the country where I live (water, building, feeding, etc).

We have all been commissioned to play a part in making disciples of all nations (race, background, culture, customs) whether that be in praying, giving, or going and maybe even in all three. Again, that can be in your schools, workplace, neighborhoods, and communities as well. Being called to missions means being called to make disciples - to reach the lost. So therefore, go into all the world.

1. Take some time to pray about which area(s) you believe you are called to (Pray, Pay, Play).

2. Are you putting action to the Great Commission? Are you going to the world around you to share the gospel? (community, school, work, friends, neighbors)

Dear Jesus, thank You for being an example for us. Thank You for showing us how to love others because of Your love for us. Help us to have a heart for missions, to have a missions mindset. Father help me to have a heart for the lost the way you do. I pray that we will have such a fire inside of us to share the gospel that we start to see revival in the world around us. Give us wisdom and insight on what we should do with within Pray, Pay, Play - how to give, where we should go. I pray over the seeds that have been sown whether it was spiritually or financially. I pray we will begin to see a harvest and see good fruit produced.

I pray for the Lane of Roses mission trip team, Lord I believe you will send the people who need to be sent and you will provide the people who need to give. I pray for their safety and guidance on their trip to Greece. I pray that each person will be able to raise the money for the trip. and that those that are to give will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit in knowing how much to give. We give you all the glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus name, Amen.
