Dear Younger Me - Hanna

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded

in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand. And when I wake up, you are still with me!

- Psalm 139:16-18

Dear Younger Hanna,

You spend your days walking around in a sea of other people - wondering if you’ll ever actually be seen. Your mind plays tricks on you constantly; it lies telling you people and situations aren’t safe. You tell yourself over and over again that you’re not worth anything, you’ll never be loved, and living life just isn’t what you want to do anymore.

While anxiety and depression rule, I know you’re desperately seeking peace, love, and hope. Unsure of where to go or what to do next, I know where your mind is going. “Just do it!” You’ve screamed this at yourself thousands of times by now. Just do it. Jump. Take the pills. Do anything to make the pain stop.

Let me encourage you: it’s not worth it. There is so much to live for - if you only knew! For all the people that don’t see you, God does. For all those that don’t love you, He does! For all the times you struggle to find your worth, God knows it - He created it!

Even though life isn’t easy, living life in Him is better than living a life without Him. I know you don’t know how deep, high, and wide His love can be yet; but you will. Keep going to church with your friends. Keep asking questions. Keep trying to find the help you know you need. It’s okay to see a counselor, in fact - it’s worth it!

There are so many people that love you - and many more to come in the future! If for no one else, hold out just for me. I promise you, great things are to come. Some days will be hard, there’s no denying that. But the life you get to live is a grand one, don’t give it up just yet!

All my love,

1. Has there ever been a time when you couldn’t see the silver lining? How did God pull you through that?

2. If you could give a younger you (or someone younger that you know) one piece of advice, what would it be?

Father, thank You for preserving my life. Thank You for placing friends and leaders in my path to help me see all that I am worth and that life was not as pointless as I thought it was. Thank You for loving me when I feel like I’m not worth loving. I love You, Father. Amen.
