So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
- John 8:36 NLT
We are born with the nature of sin. We don’t realize that we are bound to something that is beyond our control. Our sin nature makes us slaves to sin. But when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He sets our souls free! We become slaves to God! In our nature of sin, we had no obligation to do right, but when Jesus comes into our lives we want to do what is right.
What I discovered about being free is that Jesus gave me the freedom to choose to worship Him. He lifts the burden of sin from us so that we can freely choose Him. Worship begins with our hearts. When our hearts are inclined toward God, we want to express our worship in various ways. Most people correlate worship with singing songs to God. This is a very popular and satisfying way to worship! When I first got saved, I couldn’t stop singing to God! I have learned that the way we live our lives is another form of worship. Jesus gave us the freedom to choose righteous living.
Another important aspect of freedom is where we live. If you live in a place where you can freely worship, thank God! There are some who don’t have this privilege. But even if you can’t publicly show your worship, remember it starts with the state of your heart. You can worship God just by having your heart inclined toward Him. The Scripture Micah 6:8 says to be just, love, and to walk humbly before God. Just by doing these things we are freely worshiping God.
1. What is your favorite way to worship?
2. When you wake up, ask yourself, is my heart inclined toward God today?
3. Thank God every day for your freedom!
I am forever grateful to You, Jesus, for my freedom! Help me to make my life reflect You. Help me live a life that is pleasing to God. Remind me to worship every day and to not take it for granted. Amen.
