Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the
Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people
of his pasture, the flock under his care.
- Psalm 95:6-9
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word worship? I don’t know about you, but I think about the 20-30 minutes of worship time at church. I picture brothers and sisters with their hands raised in the air, singing praises to our Father together as one body. Is this wrong to think? Absolutely not, but it isn’t the only form of worship!
Worship is defined as “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration.” So judging by that definition can we worship God with more than singing praises? We sure can! The core of worship is to truly know God and to respond from a heart full of love and adoration for Him. It is a response with our hands, voices, and hearts to who God is and what He has done for us. Let's dive into how we can worship day in and day out!
You can worship through acts of love with the body, hands, and feet. This can be through offering a helping hand to a neighbor, volunteering your time at a local organization, serving in the nursery at your church, and showing God's love to others through sacrificing your time to do good (you could even become part of the Lane of Roses team!). Hebrews 13:17 says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” The Bible tells us right there that making sacrifices and doing good is pleasing to God; what a great act of worship that is! When we know God and have Him in our heart, our responses of sacrifice show His love to others and please Him.
We can also worship with our voices in song, prayer, and conversation. I love taking long drives with the windows down, blaring praise music and worshipping God with song. We can also worship God through prayer, thanking Him for who He is, what He has done for us, and just loving Him through our words with Him. Through conversation with brothers and sisters we can also worship God. Discussing His greatness and adoring Him in conversation is worshipping!
We were created to worship God and have so many opportunities to show our love and adoration to Him through our hands, voices, and hearts! Find ways that you can worship Him daily, and I know you will feel so joyful and refreshed.
1. When you think of worship, what do you picture?
2. How do you worship? How else can you worship God?
God thank You so much for all You do, for Your constant love and grace. You are so incredible, and it is a tremendous honor to be able to worship You on this side of Heaven. I pray that I am able to seek out and pursue more acts of worship and learn more about Your love for me so that I may share it with others. We love You Lord and are so grateful for Your faithful and endless love.
