So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
- 2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT
I used to think that being an ambassador for Jesus meant I had to be a missionary who traveled all over the world. As much as I love traveling, the idea didn’t appeal to me. I pictured entering into war-torn countries where there was danger and bombings, and church services had to be held in secret because Christianity could not be spoken of in public. It was all very scary to me.
As I got older, I realized that not everyone is called to do mission work abroad. However, because we are Christians, we are all enlisted in the Great Commission: Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations - Matthew 28:19a NLT. Being a disciple means being a follower of Jesus, and making disciples of all nations means that as we share the Gospel story with those around us, the hope is that they would also become disciples. This verse tells us that it is our responsibility to tell others about Jesus.
At Lane of Roses, our mission is to engage, empower, and equip women to live out their God-given purpose. It starts with engaging women through evangelism or telling them about the Gospel through Community Events, social media posts, and the Lane of Roses website. Next is empowering women, or discipling them as they grow in their faith and learn about Jesus. Involvement in Community Groups, Bible Studies, and reading Daily Devotionals shows them what it looks like to be a disciple. The third step is equip, which means going and making other disciples. At Lane of Roses, this means taking the step to commit to being a prayer partner; intern; or being a Bible Study, Social Media, or Writing Ambassador.
God will lead us where He wants us to be and to the people He wants us to disciple. As we share who God is and what His Son Jesus did for us, the hope and prayer is that those we disciple will also start the process of evangelism, discipleship, and making more disciples.
We don’t have to travel to another country to show others who Jesus is. Being an ambassador means reflecting Christ’s character in what we do, whether that is in the words of encouragement spoken to a classmate, planning a birthday lunch for a coworker, or smiling and saying “good morning” to next-door neighbors. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we are constantly talking about God or sharing every detail of our struggles. More than anything, God wants us to show His love to the world in our actions and words: Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. – John 13:35 NLT.
1. In what ways has God called you to be an ambassador for Christ?
2. How can you better reflect the character of Jesus in your daily interactions with those around you?
Father, thank You for saving me and giving me the opportunity to be like Jesus. Thank You for equipping me to live out my God-given purpose. I want to represent You well in every situation I am in. Whether You call me to live abroad, to move to another state, or to stay in the city I am in, I want to be Your ambassador. I want to be joyful, kind, patient, and bold in telling others about You. Help me to speak words of truth and life. I want to see more people become Your disciples, Amen.
