For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
- Hebrews 4:12 NLT
Have you heard of the Bible being referred to as the Living Word? The Bible, also known as God’s Word, is referred to as alive because every time you read a passage you can learn something new from it. Depending on your life experiences and your circumstances God uses His Word to speak to us. The Bible can also be like our manual for life. It has all the answers to our questions about how to handle things we are going through. God has also given us His promises in the Bible. When you read about His promises and realize that they apply to you because you are a child of God, everything changes.
We are prone to not trust, and so it’s hard at first to trust and believe that God’s Word applies to you. But as you keep reading you slowly begin to know that God is with you and there is nothing to fear. God’s Word is filled with stories about wisdom, knowledge, love, mercy, sacrifice, faith, compassion and forgiveness. We need to read about how the people before us depended on God and see how He brought them through, and He will do the same for us.
The Bible also exposes how we may be missing the mark and can get us back on track. It’s also a good idea to know scripture when we are in a jam. When God’s Word is hidden in your heart the Holy Spirit will bring it to mind to comfort you or give you reassurance about something. Sometimes the world can play tricks on you and make things seem bleak but when you have God’s Word and believe it, your faith activates it! When we speak God’s Word into our lives it leads to a joy and peace that is unexplainable!
Once you begin your journey with Jesus you won’t be able to get enough of the Bible! Reading the Bible strengthens your relationship with Him. It’s hard to stop reading because the Living God is communicating with you and there is nothing better in this world than that!
1. What is one step you can take towards making a habit of reading scripture daily?
2. How can you better trust God with every detail of your life?
3. What is one thing you would like to see change in your life for the better? Look up scriptures concerning that thing and speak them into your life, you will see change!
Thank you Father for Your Word, The Bible! Without it I would be so lost. Not only does it give me direction but it comforts me, gives me strength, courage and wisdom. There is no one like You, and I am so thankful that I can know You and have a living relationship with You. I Love You, Amen.
