Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.
- Galatians 6:4
You always hear the saying “comparison is the thief of joy.” And while you may brush it off as just another passing quote - it really does ring true.
Do you not see other women on Instagram and instantly think - I wish my page was that aesthetic?
Or maybe you see their kids and wish that yours always looked so cute for pictures? Or maybe you wish you had children?
Do you see the big influencers and how well of a response they get to spreading the Gospel and all you hear is crickets?
Well friend, let me tell you something. God has a plan. You may not be able to see it, but He knows the ministry you have set in your path. And guess what? It doesn’t look like anyone else’s. Yours may be messier, (or cleaner!) than the big influencer on Instagram. As Priscilla Shirer has said, “He will turn your mess into a message.”
So don’t be discouraged when you scroll through your feed. Instead, lift your eyes to the One who has your path set for you. For He can show you just what it is that makes you special and worthy that Instagram cannot.
Because let me tell you - that influencer or friend who seems “so put together” all the time? Well she probably isn’t. Whether she’s young, old, a mom, single, married, and so much more. She probably doesn’t have it all together. But we all do that don’t we? We only share the best parts of our lives. We don’t want people to see the messy and broken parts. That would leave us open for judgment and ridicule then.
So let me encourage you today to do just that. Open yourself up. Let others see the everyday - good and bad. You have no reason to be perfect because He is perfect for you. And besides, you never know who you might reach with your message.
1. How can you lift your eyes to Jesus today when you find yourself comparing?
2. How can you pray for each and every person on Instagram you think has it all together?
3. Will you share the messy and broken parts of your life today?
Heavenly Father, show me today how to keep my eyes set on You rather than the things of this broken world. Show me how worthy and loved I am by You, and help me show that love to others. Help me to open up and be vulnerable, for You are perfect for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
