Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
- 1 Peter 5:7
I have a really difficult time giving up control. I carry a lot of anxiety about my future, and I often worry that my expectations for my life will not be met. I stress about everything from jobs to relationships, and I can be very stubborn in what I think is the best for me. This stubbornness has sometimes been a wedge between me and God. I have experienced a lot of doubt of His plans for my life, which has caused me to feel frustration and anger towards Him. This is a season I am currently struggling through, and I have felt some shame and embarrassment in the fact that I am not fully trusting God.
However, I know that He does not want me to hold on to those feelings. I have found that when I am grappling with my relationship with God I tend to turn away from Him. I am learning to let go of that tendency and come to Him with all of my doubts and worries because He cares for me. He can handle the questions and fears we may have. He welcomes us with open arms wherever we are at.
Through this difficult season of learning to fully trust in Him, I have found it helpful to look to the Bible for wisdom. I love Jeremiah 29:11 which says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I use this verse as a reminder that even though life may not look the way I planned, God has good things in store for me. Another verse I have found comfort in throughout my life is Philippians 4:6 which says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” When I am trying to control my life or am worrying about what my future holds, I am reminded that I can let go and that I do not have to fear because God is in control.
1. What do you need to let go of to fully trust in God?
2. What Bible verses remind you that God is in control?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the love that You have given me. When I am holding on to control, remind me that You are all that I need. Thank You for being a constant presence in my life, even when I have fears or doubts. Help me to trust in You through all that I do. Remind me that my life is in Your hands and that I don’t have to worry. Thank You for caring for and loving me through it all, Amen.
