When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me
to the rock that is higher than I.
- Psalm 61:2
It’s so easy when you get asked the basically daily question of how are you to just say, “I’m doing well, you?” or some other variation of covering the truth of what you really have going on. While in some instances this is appropriate, I find that even with those we are closest with it can be hard to truly open up about what we may really have going on inside of us at any given time. Maybe you are worried about a family member, or you got rejected from a job you really thought was for you. Whatever the situation may be, being truly vulnerable with your friends, family, or even in your daily chats with Jesus can be so tough!
What I’ve learned recently, after finally opening up fully about some health issues I’ve been having to my best friend, is that it can really help to have that additional support. Even if it’s a subject that you may have formerly been too embarrassed to discuss or thought something might be TMI, it’s a relief to truly find out that there is someone in your corner that you can go to with absolutely anything.
I also know what it’s like to not want to discuss something because you may think that your problem is too small, that other people in your life have worse struggles, or that you simply don’t want to burden people with your issues. But if I’ve learned anything this past year or so it’s that we’re not meant to do this thing alone. Having community and people around you that you can trust is so important.
Or maybe you are like I was a few months ago, and you’re not yet ready to be completely open to your loved ones. That’s okay. When you are going through an inner battle, whether it’s also related to your health, or it’s something completely different, you can always come to God with your problems. He’s never going to abandon you, and no issue in your life is too big or too small for him to understand. He’s always with you sister!
1. Is there something in my life that I have been handling on my own that I need to release to God today?
2. How can I best pray for others in my life that are currently struggling with an inner battle or hardship?
Dear Lord, help us to continue to trust in You when we may not understand our circumstances. Give us peace to know that You are a God who always hears our prayers. Remind us today that we are never truly alone when we are in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
