On June 12th, 2015 my life felt shattered.
My younger brother was in a serious accident that caused him to suffer a traumatic brain injury. He went from playing college baseball and having his whole life ahead of him to having it all taken away from him in just the blink of an eye.
At the time this all happened, I started questioning God, and did not understand how this could happen to someone that had always done the right things in life and had so many things going for him.
You may be wondering what this has to do with me and how it really affected my life.
Being his older sister, you would think that I had been a role model for him throughout his life, but no, it has been the opposite.
I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life and had never been that close to God. But after my brother suffered his injury and as I watched him re-learn how to eat, walk, talk, and do other things that we take for granted each day, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
At 24 years old, I decided I wanted to go to nursing school and one day work in the Neuro ICU. As I went through nursing school, there were many times I wanted to give up, but with faith and trust in the man upstairs I was able to make it through.
I am now a registered nurse in the neuroscience ICU at UK. When situations arise, we may think that God is against us and that life is so unfair, but having faith in Him and letting Him be in control will guide us in the right direction.
I never thought I would ever amount to anything, but I truly believe my brother was my hero and God has a plan for each and every one of us.
