The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
- Exodus 14:14
Do you ever find yourself cramming as many agenda items as possible all into one day? I know I do. Or maybe, do you often find yourself trying to control the outcome of situations you know in your heart you simply just can’t? These are just a few places I have found myself needing to lean in closer to God and to learn how to embrace the gift of rest in busy and stressful seasons.
Another area where I’ve personally struggled lately, is wanting to know all the answers. As mentioned in my last post I’ve been having a difficult time with my health and through numerous tests, I still don’t have a definitive answer. If you’ve been in a similar situation, where there is constant waiting or worry, even if it’s a bit different, I’m sure you understand. It’s so easy to want to keep fighting for yourself, and maybe you might even start to feel a bit angered towards those who are just trying to help. But in reality, we’ve been given this gift or rest from a Father who loves us, knows us, and wants us to come to Him with anything. If we would just be still and reflect or pray and just enjoy being in His presence, we may start to feel His peace take over our hearts, even if we are anxious.
It’s so important to take the time to just sit with God during our daily lives, even if it’s just first thing in the morning. When we start to focus our energy, and open our hearts to Him, we’re able to invite Him into our situation. Even when everything seems to be going down a road you’d rather not travel, you’ll never be walking it alone.
If you are in the middle of a busy or overwhelming season, take a moment to just sit and reflect on all the good things He has already done. Remind yourself of the joy He’s already provided you with. In a society that loves to always be busy, don’t forget to rest in Him.
1. Have you taken a moment (or more) to rest in Him today?
2. What is one thing you can do to prioritize the gift of rest?
Dear Lord, I pray that You will help us to be better about finding rest in You alone. Remind us that You alone will fight our battles. You are always there to go before us in every situation. We thank You for those beautiful moments of rest today. In Jesus name, amen.
