Wisdom

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
- 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 ESV
Wisdom is a very broad subject but in this devotion we are looking at wisdom as a gift from God. To have wisdom is to have the Holy Spirit residing in you. There is worldly wisdom that can only be acquired through knowledge. It is a learned behavior. Godly wisdom is given by the Holy Spirit. Since God encompasses all wisdom, as Christians we should always be pursuing it because it’s the key to living a Godly life.
Before I was saved I would look through the Bible and read certain Scriptures but they didn’t “speak” to me. I didn’t understand what they meant.
Since I couldn’t comprehend the Scripture for my life I would get discouraged and shut the Bible and walk away. Until, after the day I was saved God imparted His Holy Spirit to me and suddenly the Bible became alive and everything I read applied to me! It became personal. It is only through God’s wisdom imparted to me through the Holy Spirit that I could now understand Scripture. I was so excited I wanted to share the Bible with everyone I knew and met!
Everything we acquire is a gift from God. He gives abundantly all we need and ask for. We can come to Him and ask for His wisdom and He will freely give it. His wisdom can open your mind to new things you never thought of before.
Proverbs 2:2-4 says, “Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Through wisdom we are protected, we know what is right and we are able to make wise choices.”
Reflection
1. How can you take some steps today to spend more time with God so that you recognize His voice?
2. Who can you share His truth with that needs it today?
3. How can you encourage others to seek wisdom today?
Prayer
Father, I thank You for wisdom! Without Your Holy Spirit available to me I couldn’t live the Godly life You have called me to live! I recognize all Your wonderful gifts and I’m thankful. Help me to continue to make wise choices and to live for You. Amen.
