For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
- Ephesians 2:10
When I studied abroad in Paris, my class visited the Louvre, the largest museum in the world. Historically used as a place of residence for French kings, it is now a space to display the country’s art masterpieces. With about 38,000 art pieces and being over 70,000 square feet in size, it would take days to look at everything in the museum! It was amazing to be in such a large space with so many famous pieces, but just as those pieces are so highly treasured, God also treasures us as His own masterpieces.
At Lane of Roses, our vision is for every woman to know who God is and how He made her on and for a purpose. Some of the ways that Lane of Roses pursues this vision is by sending devotionals, sharing stories and wisdom on their social media platforms, and having Bible studies. By giving women a space to find community, learn about God, and hear or read testimonies from other women, they can know their purpose and their identity in Jesus.
Reading the Bible during Bible studies and learning verses of the Bible are ways that women can know who God is, how He sees her, and the purpose He created her for. Many passages of the Bible point to how God sees His children and their worth to Him. For example, looking at chapter 43 in the book of Isaiah, it says that we belong to God (v.1), we are precious to Him and He loves us (v.4), we were created by Him and for His glory (v.7), and that we were chosen to believe and know Him (v.10). If we read other books in the Bible, we will see that God has already validated our identity in Him and given us a purpose.
So where do we start when it comes to reading the Bible? It can be daunting when there are 66 different books in the Bible with sometimes more than 50 or 100 chapters! Lane of Roses seeks to create Christian community through Bible studies held in different cities across the world. Bible studies are one way to read the Bible with other people, discuss topics, and reflect on how the text relates and applies to daily life.
God’s purpose for us is explained in 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” To glorify God means to honor Him, that is, seeking to please Him in everything we do. Pleasing God could look like us searching for knowledge of Him in the Bible, being in community with other Christians, loving and serving the people around us, or singing worship songs in the car. We honor God when we delight in Him, seek to be more like Him, and use the gifts He has given us to share Jesus with others.
Memorizing verses in the Bible helps us to live out the purpose God has for us, so that we can remember them when we are struggling or use them to encourage someone else. It also helps us stay steadfast on knowing who God is and who He says we are. When we know and believe who God is and who we are to Him, we can live boldly and confidently, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ!
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you in gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. - Zephaniah 3:17
1. In what ways has the Bible showed you who God is?
2. What makes it hard to follow the purpose God has for us?
3. How can you seek to please God today?
Father God, thank You for creating me for a purpose and showing me in Your Word how valuable I am to You. I want to know more about You and seek to glorify You in everything I do. Help me to stand strong on the truths You have said about me in Your Word. Help me to believe that I am chosen by You and precious to You. I want to love people with boldness and confidence, reflecting who Jesus is in all that I do. Amen!
