I remember accepting the Lord as my savior when I was in middle school, at my best friend’s house before church. I said the prayer and 100% meant every word. I wanted a relationship with Him.
The problem is that at the time, there weren’t many talks about what one does next...as in, what it looked like to continue to build a relationship with Christ. It wasn’t until freshman year of high school that I began to understand what we are called to do as Christians. I began to notice how God had been at work in my family. My testimony looks a little different than maybe what some have walked away from. I didn't realize that what made it worthy was because of the places God had and has rescued me from...it wasn't just a moment, but it was countless moments.
As I have gotten older, I have come to realize, our testimony is more than the day we got saved. More than how we were prior to Christ. For me, my testimony is about the dark seasons God brought me and my family through with the sickness of my father who would later go to be with the Lord. The blessings I received from trusting Him when I didn’t know how the outcome would turn out, but He was there.
I remember when my father first got sick, we couldn’t make ends meet financially. Coincidentally, right after our light bill was $10 dollars. It continued to be this amount for a year because the box was misreading voltage and would end up being replaced a year later when our financial means improved. It was the Lord, because He knew what we were going through and the answer to prayer was making our bill $10 during these hard seasons allowing the funds that would have been used for the lights to go towards another necessity. At the time, I didn’t understand it was God. It was during the time I was learning more about who He was and cultivating a relationship with him that I realized that blessing.
Every day a blessing is happening in our lives and sometimes, we are either so busy or it’s not slapping us across the face, that we don’t even see it. Every situation that has seemed dark and scary, He has been there providing guidance for me. Even when I didn’t think He was there, He was. Having Christ in our hearts, means we have someone constantly there with us, fighting for us. The battle has already been won against the enemy. The Lord has provided us with the tools we need to conquer the trials that come into our life.
My testimony is ongoing and what I share with someone today, might be completely different next year because of all the things God has done in that year that I want to share. Whatever your testimony may be, whether you grew up in church your whole life or there was radical change in lifestyle when you accepted the Lord, share it. Let others know what He has done in your life and about the love He has for His children.
