"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good
and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
- Jeremiah 29:11
Do you ever remember a time when someone, maybe a friend in middle school or a sibling, came up to you and said, “I know something you don’t know”? Or maybe someone told you that they had a surprise for you, but you had to wait to find out what it was? The feeling of someone else knowing something that you don’t suddenly seems to be looming over you and you can’t wait to find out what it is.
In some cases, this sense of uncertainty may be exciting and fun, but uncertainty can also be intimidating sometimes. Whether it’s uncertainty about what career path to choose, how you’re going to pay your bills, or even who you’re going to marry, sometimes we can get caught up in feeling like we need to know all the details.
However, multiple times throughout the Bible, God reminds us not to worry, but to trust in Him. He tells us that He knows the plans He has for us and that His plans are good (Jeremiah 29:11). When we cast our uncertainties on Him, we can rest in knowing that He will provide.
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved. - Psalm 55:22 ESV
Just like when someone tells us, “trust me, you are going to like this surprise,” God tells us to trust Him because He will take care of us. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by the uncertainty in life, we can learn to use these times of uncertainty to grow our faith by trusting in God. He assures us that even when we may not know what our next move is, He does, and it is EVEN MORE than we could ever imagine.
Think of a time when you felt like you were in a season of uncertainty. What could God have been teaching you or preparing for you during this time?
I pray that You use seasons of uncertainty in my life to teach me to build my trust in You. I pray that I will find peace in knowing that You are with me and that Your plans are good. I pray that when I can’t seem to find my way or see what’s coming next, You will remind me that Your plans are even more perfect than anything I could have imagined for myself.
