- Ephesians 3:7
Who is God to you?
Lately, it has been written on my heart how God is a storyteller. With each and every chapter, He delicately pieces together so intricately the story He is writing. He illustrates His breathtaking creation that acts as the setting, and He breathes life into the characters that He writes in His own image. My Father, the Author of my story, has His intimate love and understanding of me laced into every word He writes and on every page He turns.
And my Father, the most captivating of all authors, chose to write me as a masterpiece. I am one of the characters He breathes life into—a character who is intentionally placed in His settings and gets to gaze upon His wonders: vast mountains that seem to have no end, breathtaking canyons, glimmering seas moving in graceful waves, snow that glitters like jewels, or the beauty of rebirth in the Spring. As a vineyard worker chooses the perfect place to plant his vines for them to grow and bear fruit, the Storyteller places me intentionally so that I may bear fruit for Him. Yet, there is even more to His story.
The story He writes is one of redemption. There are times in my story that I fall short of acting in the light of His love for me; but He trades my imperfection and my sin for His own Son, who bears the cross that wears my name to make me new. He loves me so intimately to write my story and to breathe life into me, but He does even more that my human understanding cannot comprehend. Jesus carried my cross, wearing the crown of thorns that represented my sins so that I could be covered by His perfect blood and His grace. “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). And yet even still, after being redeemed and loved so much that it is beyond my comprehension, God is even more.
There is a place waiting for me, despite my unworthiness, where I will be in communion with the Writer of my story. Even after bearing my burdens, after covering me in grace, He gives me even more in Heaven.
In this chapter of my story, I have yet to understand all of who my Father is. In this worldly setting where I am intentionally placed, it can be difficult to fathom and comprehend all that He is, though He has done this purposefully. In light of any trials I may face, suffering I may endure, or mistakes I may make, I am exactly where I am supposed to be in my story. God my Father and my Storyteller is even more than I can imagine, and I am learning about Him page by page.
1. Where has God the Storyteller placed you to bear fruit?
2. Who is God to you?
3. How can you further your understanding of how God is even more?
Father, You are more than I could ever comprehend. You are so loving and so, so good. The Writer of my story Who knows and loves me so intimately. Thank You for loving me and redeeming me beyond my comprehension. I ask that You transform my heart and write my story as one that glorifies You, Father. Help me to understand all that You are and all of Your goodness each day so that I may grow closer to You and Your love, Father. I love You and praise You for all that You are and thank You for loving me as a masterpiece. Amen.
