How to Live Through the Storm
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
- John 16:33
We all go through times where it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Where all we can see is darkness, and it feels like we will never get out. Luckily, we don’t have to go through these times alone. We can always turn to God to give us comfort, and He has given us many resources to combat any challenges we may face.
These are just some of the ways that we can rely on God and others to get through the storm:
1. Talk to Someone
We don’t have to go through tough times alone. I know that I have often felt the pressure to pretend like I have it all together, but that makes any problem 100 times worse. There is no shame in admitting that life can be overwhelming sometimes.
When we reach out for help, it helps relieve the burden and reminds us that we are not alone. God has placed people in our lives for this reason, to support us and love us through all seasons of life. We were not meant to do life by ourselves. We can be reminded of this in Galatians 6:2 which says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”
2. Turn to Scripture
There are many passages in the Bible that can comfort us in our time of need. When I am overwhelmed, I like to spend some quiet time reading over verses that remind me that God will always be there for me. One of my favourite passages is Philippians 4:6-7 which says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
3. Turn to God in Prayer
I love that our God is a God that wants to be in communication with us. We can go to Him with anything, and He hears us. I find it so helpful to come to God and just lay everything down and to be honest with my problems. He wants to know the good, bad, and everything in between. When I feel alone in my struggles, prayer reminds me that God is always there, and that He will never forsake me.
