How To Seek God in Times of Plenty
Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.
- 1 Chronicles 16:11
I’d venture to bet that we all seek God when trials and tribulations come up.
God, help me!
God, I need You!
God, show me the way!
God, make this better!
It’s easy to seek Him in times of trouble, of course. He’s our Savior, Protector, Fixer, Healer, Comfort, Voice of Reason, and so much more. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried out to Him in desperation when I feel like my life is falling apart - especially in the recent weeks. What I know I specifically lack in is remembering to seek God when everything is going right. Seeking God should not be something that is contingent on your life circumstances; it should be a daily occurrence and a way of life.
So, how do I seek God when everything is going right - the times of plenty?
1. Read the Bible Daily.
I think this goes without saying. Whether you’re reading a physical Bible, using a Bible app on your phone, or listening to Scripture over your headphones or car stereo, you should be getting into God’s Word daily. Seeking God through His written Word is one of the easiest and most practical ways to seek Him in your daily life.
Worship isn’t just singing. You can worship in whatever way makes you feel closest to Him. Paint, play an instrument, walk through nature, play a sport, etc. What’s most important is that you know that what you’re doing is being done for God.
3. Thank Him.
Thank Him for all that’s good in your life. We know He is the Author of our days. Thanking God for what He has given us and where He’s led us is so important. So, take some time and thank Him.
Of course, there are other ways that you may choose to seek God. The method in which you choose to seek God isn’t what’s most important. The most important thing is that you choose to seek Him.
