And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.
- Ephesians 3:6
Do you ever read Old Testament scripture and see “Jews are God’s chosen people” and feel left out?
I know I have. It makes you wonder if you are chosen as well.
Ephesians 3 starts with Paul’s prayer for the church - those who are of Jewish descent and those who aren’t.
Notice how Ephesians 3:6 states, “God’s plan is for BOTH Gentile and Jews who believe in the Good News to share equally in the riches inherited by God.” This means exactly what you think it means.
If you are a believer - you are also God’s chosen. You are a child of God.
We are called to be one body, one Spirit, with one Lord, one faith, one baptism, with one God because we have unity in everything under the Messiah (Ephesians 4:4-6). This unity would produce a humanity that will live in peace, but unity does not equal uniformity.
This is where we are called to use our own unique talents to love one another and serve the church. To be in the world, but not of the world. To live our lives in the way Christ has modeled for us. To form habits to grow and mature as followers of Jesus.
So friend, if reading “Jews are God’s chosen people” confuses you in how you could also be chosen and a child of God, I urge you to read Ephesians. Paul does such a wonderful job painting a picture for us as Gentiles to also be included in God’s plan.
Because we were never excluded from it, we just needed Jesus as the bridge.
We are all one family, no matter age, race, heritage, socioeconomic backgrounds. We are all one, and in Christ together. So we must stay rooted in the Word, and the love of Christ Jesus that surpasses all, and live how He would live - sharing the Gospel and His love.
1. Pick a chapter of Ephesians to read today. What new thing did you learn from it after seeing Paul’s message in a different light?
2. How can you share this message with someone today?
3. How can you show God’s love to a non-believer today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending people such as Paul to paint such a beautiful picture of unity and love through Your Word. Thank You for showing me today that I am chosen by You. I am Your child, and am called to spread Your love and message to everyone. We are all one family in Your arms. Help me to spread that love and message to everyone I come in contact with from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.
