But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors. You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days.”
- Joshua 6:2-3
Oftentimes it can feel like God’s instructions are steering you away from where you thought you were supposed to be going. God has made a promise to us as his children to love and protect us. But, it can still be hard to trust in His promises.
Sometimes it is hardest to listen and follow when we can’t see the end results. But God’s promises are so much bigger than we are. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” God has such big plans for each of us. Even if his instructions are challenging us, he is giving us an opportunity to rely on him in the face of fear. I aspire to have faith as strong as Joshua’s. He was a soldier and a leader. When God told him he would take over Jericho simply by marching around the city, he obeyed. His soldiers may have questioned him, but he led them in obedience to God’s commands and his faith was rewarded. God called him to march, not fight.
God has called me to do things that I am afraid of. I’m sure He has called you to do the same. I chose to procrastinate and let my fear stop me from obeying. But, once I began to listen and fulfill His plans for me, He rewarded me with inner peace and a stronger relationship with my Heavenly Father.
His promises are good, yes, and Amen.
Reflection
1. What is God calling you to do right now?
2. How can you take one step closer to fulfilling God’s promises for you?
Prayer
Lord, help me to have strength like Joshua. So that I can lead others to You through my actions and my faith. Help me to rely on You and Your promises even when they aren’t what I planned.
Amen.
