Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
- Ecclesiastes 3:11
“Let go, let God.” I don’t know about you, but I’ve heard that saying a gazillion times. When it comes to being in control, I’ll be the first to admit that I do NOT like when life isn’t going as planned (my plan, that is).
Anxiety gets the best of me when I don’t know what’s going to happen, so I have a hard time “letting go and letting God.” With this having been a longtime struggle of mine, 2020 has felt like God continuously throwing me opportunities to practice handing everything over to Him. Spoiler alert: I’m not perfect at this yet, and I probably never will be. But there are a couple of things that have helped me “feel AND deal” with quarantine life and the unprecedented times we are living in.
The first thing I learned was a priceless piece of wisdom I gained from TikTok of all places. While probably hours deep into mindless 60-second videos, I stumbled upon one that spoke a very profound truth: if you pray for God to make you kind, do you think He will just make you kind or give you opportunities to show kindness? If you pray to God to be forgiving, do you think He will simply make you forgiving or give you opportunities to forgive? Pretty mind blowing coming from TikTok, but it absolutely stuck with me.
Putting your life into God’s hands requires giving up control and maybe even your own desires, and that can be a frightening and difficult thing to do. But if you desire to give Him your whole heart, He will provide opportunities to lay everything down in front of Him. I truly believe that with all the events happening in 2020, God is providing opportunities to practice giving our hearts to Him and trusting Him to make even the ugliest things beautiful in their time.
Which brings me to the second thing that has helped me deal with quarantine: Ecclesiastes 3:11. This verse says “He will make everything beautiful in its time.”
Never in a million years did I think 2020 would be the year of a global pandemic; however, as ugly as this year has been God tells us that He will make it all beautiful. Because I know I can give him my heart and trust Him with my life, I can trust that He will make all of this beautiful. I’m not exactly sure how just yet, but He is giving me the opportunity to “let go and let God,” and that is how I am “feeling and dealing” with quarantine and life after.
1. What opportunities do you feel God has given you to practice letting go and letting Him?
2. How has quarantine made you feel? How are you taking that to God?
Father, I thank You for giving me opportunities to better grow with You and to deepen my relationship with You. I know that no matter how good or bad things seem, at any given time I can put my life in Your hands and trust You to make things beautiful. I pray that You are with me and every person in these times to provide a sense of comfort and safety. Last, I pray for all the lives that have been affected by the pandemic. Amen.
