For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to
your royal position for such a time as this?
- Esther 4:14 NIV
When I think about everything that Esther went through over the course of her life, I'm reminded of the fact that God always has a plan for His people. He has a plan for you even when your current situation seems at its most relentless or scary, as we know what God had planned for Esther was no small ask in her time of life.
In the book of Esther we learn that some time after she has been chosen as the queen of Persia, she received word that a man by the name of Haman was going to set out to rid the world of her and the Lord’s people, the Jews. She knew that she couldn’t sit back and let her people pass without fighting for them.
To set the tone of this time period, it was not wise for a woman - even a queen - to come to her king with any kind of request. It was not something to be taken lightly and Esther knew she may very well be risking her own life. In her heart she knew she had to request for the king to protect the Jews. Prior to this, she spent a great deal of time praying and fasting. Much to her surprise, when Esther brought this plea to the King he offered her much more than she could imagine and kept the Jewish people safe.
While this is just the shorthand version of what happens in the book of Esther, it is a great example of the importance of prayer in seasons of the unknown. If you are scared, take your problems to Him. If you are feeling lost and alone, He is there to sit with you in your storm, whatever it may be. God has a unique plan for each of our lives in every season. And who knows, it very well could be better than we could ever imagine!
1. If you are feeling overwhelmed today, take a moment to reflect on the promises God kept to Esther in the midst of a big, even scary situation. What was a time where God exceeded all of your expectations?
2. If you are going through something really tough, take some extra time to set aside for prayer. Set a few alarms to remind yourself throughout the day if you need to. What are some prayers God has answered in your life?
Dear Lord, we ask that You will remind us of Your individual promises to us. You are our promise keeper and way maker. Help us to put our faith and trust in You alone during our daily battles. Give us strength to carry on in trying seasons. We thank You for Your love and promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
