There's a Movie for That
Written by: Celeste Warner

If I’m working late on a graduate school project, eating a quick dinner, or relaxing after work, I always enjoy watching a few episodes of a show or a movie. The stories and characters always help me empty my mind and de-stress. However, no matter what I am watching, there is always something I take away—whether it’s a feeling or life lesson. Whatever reason you choose to watch a show or movie today, here are some recommendations on which genre to pick based upon your current mood:
· Tense/Nervous — Choose something lighthearted and familiar. (For me, I always put on Friends. I’ve watched the series more than 5 times, and it always brightens up my day.)
· Irritated/Annoyed — Choose something that makes you think (like a crime show or thriller). This will take your mind off of the current situation and keep you engaged with the character’s lives. (Jason Bourne or NCIS would be a great place to start!)
· Excited/Lively — Choose a comedy—or if you like romance, a romantic comedy—this will keep your mood light, and you can make some great memories with friends and family. (Give Legally Blonde a try!)
· Bored/Weary — Choose a sci-fi or fantasy. This will bring excitement to your day with the adventurous and fantastic vibes. (Harry Potter, Doctor Who, or the Marvel Universe are great options.)
· Gloomy/Sad — It’s time to be nostalgic. Choose your favorite shows or movies from your childhood and reminisce. It will help boost your mood! (For me, this is the time for Disney princesses, Barbie, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, or Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman.)
· Relaxed/Carefree — Choose something you’ve never watched before. This is the perfect opportunity to watch that new Netflix show or stream that new movie you’ve heard so much about! (If you have any recommendations for Netflix or Disney+ shows or movies, leave a comment. I’d love some good recommendations!)
· Calm/Serene — It’s time to pass the remote. Let your friend, family member, or partner choose what you watch. It’s a small way to show them you love them, and you may get to learn something new about them in the process. (Shout out to my fiancé for watching Hamilton and Hallmark with me!)
