We All Fall Short

He carried our sins in His own body when He died on a cross. In doing this, we may be dead to sin and alive to all that is right and good.
- 1 Peter 2:24 (NLV)
Have you ever wished to live in a world without doubt, fear, pain, and shame? I know I have. It can be hard to imagine our world without all these things. The good news is that those things are not of God; they are all by-products of the sin of our broken world, and since they are not of God, that means that there is the hope of not living with them someday. Sin entered into this world through Adam and Eve and that created a separation between God and us. If we look at what it was like in the Garden of Eden, we see the first picture of what it would be like in a world without sin. “Adam and Eve were naked, and they felt no shame.” (Genesis 2:25 NIV). No more sin means being in the fullness of God, not questioning your identity. No fear and no shame.
Since sin did enter the world, God had a plan on how to rectify sin. He sent His Son, Jesus, to save the world. When Jesus died on the cross, He took on the sin of the world, current and future. “He carried our sins in His own body when He died on a cross. In doing this, we may be dead to sin and alive to all that is right and good.” (1 Peter 2:24 NLV). When Jesus took on our sins, it meant that we are forgiven and do not have to live with our past sins. Now there is no longer a barrier between God and us; Jesus is the bridge. Each moment we can live forgiven, without guilt or shame, and walk in the fullness of what God has for us.
While we do have forgiveness through Jesus, there is still sin in this world and we are not perfect. “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23 NLT). That is why we also have the hope of no more sin in Heaven, where “nothing evil will be allowed to enter.” (Revelation 21:27 NLT). In Heaven, there will be no more sin or any of sin’s by-products. It will be like it was before sin entered into this world. When sin is gone for good, all that will be left are the things of God, like love, joy, and peace. That is the hope we have in Jesus, that our sins are forgiven and we can live in peace, joy, and love on Earth and in Heaven.
1. How can you live your life today to be more like Jesus and bring love and joy to the world?
2. Is there any sin in your life that you need to ask forgiveness for to bring you closer to God?
Dear God, thank You for Your Son, Jesus, and what He did on the cross. Lord, we are so grateful that He, who had no sin, died for all sinners. Jesus, help us to remember Your sacrifice every day as we try to be more like You. Thank You that through Jesus' sacrifice, there is hope that we will one day get to live in a world with only love and peace and all the good things that come from You, God. In Jesus' name, amen.
