- Romans 5:5
I’m a runner. Ask any of my friends, they’ll tell you I like to avoid my problems at all cost. I like to pretend I have it all together, and that I can deal with life on my own. I often convince myself that God doesn’t want to hear about my struggles, and that He will look at me differently if I turn to Him. In reality, like us all, I desperately need Him.
I run from God because I’m scared of what He will think of me. When we are struggling, the world tells us that we should feel shame and guilt. It tells us we should keep what we are going through to ourselves. I worry that God will see me that way. I worry about not being good enough for His love, and that I am a disappointment to Him.
However, God always proves me wrong. I remember a time where I was at my rock bottom. I was turning everywhere else but to God to try and dull the pain I was feeling. I was ashamed, and gradually distanced myself from Him because of it. During that period of my life, I had the opportunity to serve at a local summer camp. Throughout the week I was checked out, and I felt like God wasn’t there. Then one powerful night, I finally heard His voice. I was reminded that however far away from God we might feel, He will always welcome us back with open arms.
When I need to remember this, I turn to the Bible. I love Romans 8:38, which says, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” We are all cherished daughters, who are loved so dearly by our Father. No matter how bad it may seem, we can always go to Him. He will never forsake us!
1. Who or what do you turn to when you are struggling?
2. What Bible verses remind you that God is always there for you?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You so much for Your grace, love, and forgiveness. Thank You that I can come to You with anything, and that You will be there to guide me. When I feel shame and guilt, remind me that I am Your daughter, and that You will never leave me. Thank You for being a constant presence in my life. Amen. READ MORE DAILY DEVOTIONS…
