When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him,
“Would you like to get well?”
- John 5:6
Have you ever been asked that question?
Maybe you did get well, or maybe you didn’t.
Maybe you still struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, etc.
But if Jesus asked you this question, would you respond like the paralyzed man?
“I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” - John 5:7
Or would you leap for joy that He wants to help you?
I think sometimes we think we would respond that way, but more often than not we respond like the paralyzed man. We have doubts, or we have self-pity, or even just not the energy to get well.
But the greatest thing about it all in whichever way we do respond? It doesn’t matter. Jesus still wants to help us. He wants to heal us. Just like He did the paralyzed man who had self-pity that there was no one there to help him, but little did he know that it was Jesus he was talking to.
“Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” - John 5:8
And just like that, the paralyzed man was healed. What an amazing testimony he would have!
What about you, friend? What is your testimony? What has Jesus healed you from?
Bad life choices?
He is the healer of all. These stories we read in the Bible of His healings remind us just how powerful He is, and that He can and will heal us from too. We all have something, even if it seems insignificant, that Jesus has healed us of. That is your testimony! Let Him do the good work inside of you so that His light shines through you.
You are wholly and dearly loved, my friend. He is near you, with you, and wants to heal you. So come as you are because you are welcome here and now. Not later when you feel you are worthy, but now! He loves you, and I love you, friend. Welcome Him into your life today and feel His presence.
1. Have you ever felt unworthy of being healed?
2. How can you allow Jesus to work inside you today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to walk this earth, that we could see His healings in Your Word, to know that it is possible for us too! So, Lord today I pray over my friend who is reading this. I pray they feel Your presence, love, healing touch and let You in. I pray whatever is hurting them today that they give it to You, Lord. I pray that they let You in so You can hold them close. I pray Your love, mercy, and grace over them today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
