WHAT WE BELIEVE

ABOUT THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible is God’s Word; that it is the written revelation of God’s character; that it is a congruent story of God’s creation of, love for, and redemption of His people. We believe it is inspired by God; fully true; the basis of all we believe; and perfectly authoritative for convicting, teaching, and strengthening God’s people as they seek Him.  (2 Timothy 3:15-17; Psalm 19:7; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:17-19; John 5:39)

ABOUT GOD

We believe in One True God, eternally existent as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (triune). God is Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of all things, which were made by Him and for Him. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, ever-present, perfectly good, and perfectly just. He is holy - or altogether set apart in His perfections - yet He is also loving, gracious, and kind, with purposes that work for His sole glory and for the ultimate good of His people. (Genesis 1 - 2:4; Deuteronomy 6:4-6; Leviticus 20:26; Psalm 119, 139; Isaiah 30:18, 55:3-13; Zephaniah 3:17; Romans 11:33-36, 8:28-30; 1 John 4:7-10)

ABOUT GOD THE FATHER

We believe in God the Father, eternally existent as a person of the Trinity with God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, who set forth His plans for creating and redeeming a people for Himself before He spoke creation into existence. He sent His Son to die for the sins of man and reconcile those who would believe to a right relationship with Him in His eternal family. (John 3:16, 17; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:45; 1 John 4:9-10; 2 Timothy 1:9)

ABOUT JESUS

We believe Jesus Christ is God the Son, eternally existent as a person of the Trinity with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. According to the Father’s purpose and plan, God the Son was born of a virgin and took on flesh to live on Earth among His creation. Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived a perfect life of love, power, and obedience; He willingly died to pay for the penalty of sin in the place of mankind; and He raised from the dead to defeat the powers of sin and death over all of His creation, enabling man and creation to be restored - for man, to a right relationship with God through faith; for creation, to a new, perfect glory upon Jesus’ return at the Father’s intended time. (John 1:1-18, 8:48-59, 14:6, 20:30-36; Matthew 1:18-23, 27:32-54; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 10:9-10; Colossians 1:15-17; 1 John 1:1-2, 3:16-17)

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe the Holy Spirit is eternally existent as a Person of the Trinity with God the Father and God the Son, that He is the Counselor, Advocate, Helper, Teacher, and Guide for those who believe. We believe the Holy Spirit creates people anew when they come to faith in Jesus Christ, that He comes to dwell in the hearts of those who believe, and that He is continually at work in and through believers to convict, sanctify, strengthen, and produce fruit in their lives as they walk with God and grow in their relationship with Him. (John 3:5-6, 14:26; Romans 8:1-17, 26-27; 1 John 4:13;
Galatians 5:16-26; Titus 3:6
)

ABOUT HUMANITY

God created humans in His image, in harmonious relationship with Himself, but man fell into sin by dishonoring God and disobeying His commands. Thus, all people are created in the image of God and have inherent value, but choose to live in opposition to Him as part of the fallen nature into which they are born. When a person comes to faith in Jesus Christ, they are redeemed and reborn by the power of the Holy Spirit, and are adopted as a son or daughter of God the Father. In this new nature, people are given specific gifts from the Holy Spirit to live out God’s story for their lives as part of His family, uniquely and obediently, in relationship with Him and the rest of His people. (Genesis 1:27-3:24; Romans 3:9-26, 5:12, 8:18-30; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Peter 1:3-9)

ABOUT SALVATION

We believe salvation, for those who believe, is complete forgiveness of sin, deliverance from eternal wages of sin, and reconciliation to a right relationship with God both on earth as those who believe are sanctified and eternally when those who believe are glorified with Him in Heaven. Salvation is available to anyone who, by grace, believes in their heart and confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. Jesus Christ is the way, truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. Salvation is the secure starting point of an ongoing, transformational relationship with God by His grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ alone, empowered by the Holy Spirit alone. (John 3:16, 6:44, 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:15-19; Romans 1:16, 5:8-12; Ephesians 2:1-10, Acts 4:8-12)

ABOUT THE CHURCH

The Church consists of all who believe in and confess Jesus as Lord. They are united to Him and one another through the Holy Spirit’s power and make up His Body on earth. The Church is a family of Christ’s Ambassadors, intended to demonstrate God’s heart by loving Him, receiving His love, and loving others. God has given every individual in the Church unique gifts for building up the Body and contributing to its purpose lived out. The Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, is God’s chosen vessel for spreading His Good News of salvation to all the Earth. (2 Corinthians 5:20-21; Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:6-19; Romans 12:4-5; 2 Corinthians 5:20-21,12:1-31; Colossians 1:15-18)

ABOUT THE END

We believe the Earth as we know it is temporary, that it is presently under the effects of the sin that entered the world after God’s initial good creation. This present earth is not the permanent home for mankind; those who believe are co-heirs with Christ and citizens of Heaven. After physical death, those who do not believe in Jesus Christ will suffer in eternal separation from God, and those who believe will be raised, restored, and glorified to live in eternal perfect harmony and union with God, upon Jesus’ bodily return to bring His people from Earth to their right place in Heaven with God. (Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43, 25:31-46; Romans 8:18-25; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Luke 13:22-30; John 8:24)
